i took a walk down memory lane today. (no, not just in the metaphorical sense.)

i accompanied jingyu, brent and xiong bowling at tampines safra (how amazing is that, right?). i got bored eventually, even though it was rather amusing watching pretty girl, not so pretty girl, and pretty girl part 2 bowl. haha. they are quite good though.

anyway, back to my memory lane story which isn't really a story in the first place. this gets me wondering why i am so intent on making each and every one of my blog entries a story, when most of the time there is no story to be told. okay, some might disagree, but see i'm rambling again and this keyboard really sucks beacuse i'm using my brother's com because the internet isn't working properly (blame it on the wireless adaptor -.-) and the keyboard is really noisy and clanky and sounds like a rusty old armour OKAY back to the point.

right, where was i? memory lane. yes. btw, is there a lane in singapore called memory lane? because i know kristel lives somewhere like jalan sentosa, but okay nevermind being increasingly random - i should start sleeping earlier instead of staying up till 4am every morning, it really doesn't help my um whatever-ness (i'm running out of words).

YES okay finally i shall get on with it. where...? safra. right. so i walked home after watching them bowl one game (cause i was sleepy -.-) instead of taking the bus, thus saving myself um 45 cents. yay me. so i walked home, and i walked home the way i used toafter school (yes, my primary school was quite close to tampines safra). so i walked and walked and walked and i realized it really was quite a long walk - like more than 1 km. O.o

and on my walk home, i passed my primary school classmate, and i didn't say hello. okay, yeah maybe i'm mean or whatever, but seriously - it is very awkward when you meet your primary school classmates on the streets. okay, maybe not for you, but it is for me. for some strange reason. like, i don't know what to say to them - i'm not being elitist or anything, it's just that we've all become so different and so out-of-touch that starting anew is very difficult. it's like making friends all over again. so not a good thing. and the other day, while i was out at tampines mall with my mum (we were buying um groceries or food or something) and i met another one of my primary school classmates (yes, tampines mall is a damn hip place to hang out if you live in tampines -.-) and it was so, terribly awkward, 'cause she said hi, and i was all like hi! omg haven't seen you in ages! and then there was this long silence and we kinda like looked at each other and then we just said bye (very awkwardly) and went our own ways. anyway, my point is not that if you live in tampines and don't want to see your primary school mates you should buy a wig or go for plastic surgery or whatever, it's just that, um, i dunno, you tell me.

i've kinda run out of steam, but i must mention the rest of my journey home. anyway. i jaywalked. a lot. something i would never even have dreamt of doing in primary school. i used to walk to and from school with this other girl - we used to call ourselves best friends - and now i, um, haven't seen her in like years. anyway, we always used to wait for the crossing and raise our hands while crossing the road (haha, no, i wasn't that loser), and it always seemed like a terrible crime to jaywalk and i used to be so scared the police would arrest me if i did. haha. and now i wouldn't think twice about jaywalking, heh. how times have changed.

and we used to walk home every day, and sometimes when we were feeling rich (meaning we had an extra like 50 cents left over from that day's pocket money), we'd stop at this little shop under the block of flats and buy like mamee or those 20cent chocolate coins or lollipops or those frozen ice sticks that came in assorted colours and cost only 10cents per stick. and we'd eat whatever we bought (we always bought the same things) and talk about things that seemed terribly important at that age, like who didn't do their homework, or who had dyed their hair and was becoming such a bad girl at such a young age, or whose little brother was watching too much pokemon or whatever. haha. it's really quite amusing to think back on such times. maybe that's why people keep journals or diaries or whatever - so they can read them ten, twenty years down the road and laugh at how juvenile they used to be. (:

then i remembered how three of us used to walk home after school everyday, and when it rained, we'd pretend not to have umbrellas just so we could play in the rain and get wet. or we'd take out our umbrellas and hold them anyhow-ly so the wind would blow away the umbrellas and we'd get wet anyway. then we'd shriek and squeal and scream and make a big fuss about wet shoes and socks and uniforms and groan about how our mums were gonna skin us alive for getting wet in the rain. then we'd wish each other good luck with our mums just before we parted ways, so that we wouldn't get into too much trouble and not be allowed to watch tv or something. and we'd jump in the little puddles after the rain stopped and try to get each other wet without getting wet ourselves, only it never worked, and all three of us would go home with wet shoes and socks anyway. gosh, and i remember this one time, when it was really pouring, and our umbrellas got turned inside out and we all got soaked, and my bag got wet and this tamil essay i wrote also got wet, and when i got home and found my wet essay with all the ink smudged all over the place, i got so freaked out i started crying. because my tamil teacher was really fierce, and she'd scold us if we didn't have our homework and i was terrified of her. so i called my friend and cried over the phone to her and she was very worried for me but told me to dry my essay, and then re-write it and hand in both to my teacher the next day and explain whatever happened. (gosh, we were such firm believers in telling the truth those days) and i eventually did stop crying, and re-wrote my essay and spent the whole of the next day dreading tamil class, but when it was time for tamil class, my teacher didn't even ask for the essay, and i was so relieved, and my friend was so happy for me and we all lived happily ever after.

or not.
